ART-SCIENCE COLLABORATIONS
Engaging with the other-than-human world is often the starting point of Vaughn’s work. A practice of collaboration with scientists is a process in which new images, objects, and experiences can emerge. Vaughn partners with scientists and organizations with an ecological focus. Examples include Mossuments, in which they worked with bryologists to select mosses that grow in the substrate and location. Her work with rivers, drainage, and rain gardens has included collaborations with hydrologists and fisheries biologists among others. The projects Plantscapes and Village Greens are developed with botanists and horticulturalists. Visualizing in the Messyverse included a workshop held during the Conference on Biological Stoichiometry, during which participants created collaborative artwork using storytelling and painting techniques.
