Mossuments
Cascade mountain granite, moss | Beaverton, OR
Mossuments presents a monument to mosses, the ubiquitous yet often under-appreciated denizens of the Northwest forest. Each stone is both a monument to the species and habitat for mosses to live on. Over time, the stones will gradually become overgrown with moss. Thanks to bryologists at the University of Washington for advising in the development of this work and identifying appropriate moss species names to include on the stones.
Commissioned for Jordan Woods Natural Area by the Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation Department.
Stone fabrication by Seattle Solstice
2014 and always growing
Mossier photos at bottom are from 2024 after 10 years of moss growth.
