TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE ENHANCEMENTS
AND ART PLANNING
AND ART PLANNING
Vaughn served as the “staff artist” within the Seattle Department of Transportation from 2008-2012. She worked jointly between SDOT and the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture with the job title of Arts and Enhancements Project Manager. Working with SDOT on projects at all scales, from incorporating art into sidewalk repairs, to design consultation on large capital projects, to planning, scoping and defining 1% for art-funded public art projects. Through discussions with SDOT staff, stakeholders, design consultants and the Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, Vaughn planned the incorporation of public art funded by 1% for Art funds. In addition, she sought ways to incorporate art and enhancements into the everyday work of SDOT, even on projects with no 1% for art associated with them.
