VILLAGE GREENS
A village green is a traditional common green space in the center of a town.
In the Village Greens series of artworks, humans share space with plants and with each other.
These works allow people to experience our symbiotic relationship with our atmosphere and plants in a direct sensory manner. We share our breath with plants, and we witness on a bodily level the fluctuations in air temperature and moisture within the biosphere. We also experience, in a child-like way, a shift in scale and attention with an invitation to look closely at small plants and living soil.
Each Village Green project is unique. Responding to local conditions and collaborating with local communities allows a new work to take form. The forms of the structures and the species inside are all determined through a process of conversation amongst people and places. The long-term life of the artwork is considered, from the care for the plants inside, to the potential eventual re-planting, re-purposing and re-inventing of the structures.
