The
Circles Project
was a series of public installations in response to the international
events of Fall 2001. The first was created on September 18. This circle
was made of yellow roses placed at Park Street, Government Center and
Copley Square in Boston. Two weeks later, I constructed a circle of international
flags, and after that a circle of stones. The final gesture was a circle
of lanterns made of ice that melted, releasing clay doves into Copley
Square. Each circle became a venue for public discussion as people responded
with chalk and other additions.
