LAND FOR ADOPTION
Land For Adoption with the CUV (cultivation utility vehicle)
2006-ongoing
Participatory public project, vehicle constructed from wood, wheels, hardware, and shade cloth, local flora, adoption forms, clipboard.
Commissioned by 4Culture (King County, WA), Scottsdale Public Art (AZ), Conflux (Brooklyn), and other venues
The CUV (cultivation utility vehicle) travels the city, offering land for adoption. Participants sign an adoption form to accept responsibility for the “land” (a small patch of earth with a local native plant growing in it). Participants are invited to tend, plant and care for the land. Adoption records remain on file with the project and are exhibited at various venues. Land For Adoption has taken place in locations as diverse as Seattle WA, Scottsdale, AZ, and Brooklyn, NY. In each location the project adapts to local conditions with choice of plants and materials.
