A BIOSPHERE FOR THE BERWICK INSTITUTE
A Biosphere for the Berwick Institute
2003
Commissioned by the Berwick Research Institute, Boston MA

In a former industrial space in Roxbury Mass, a patch of forest floor lives within a protective skin. Over a period of weeks, the biosphere is cared for and monitored by the artist and visitors. Entering the biosphere, visitors are enveloped in moist air and the smell of the forest floor. At the end of the residency period, visitors adopt portions of the biosphere in a “land grab.”
